INSTALLATION OF SPLIT AIR CONDITIONING UNITS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will equip trainees with basic engineering skills required within the air conditioning trade and to competently install split type air conditioning units.

COURSE DURATION:

4 weeks (180 hours), 6 days a week

Monday – Friday: (8:00am – 5:00pm)

Saturdays: (8:00am – 1:00pm)

CLASS SIZE:

Maximum of 12 trainees per class

METHODOLOGY:

Each trainee will be issued with a comprehensive folder of course notes, covering the scope of the course. The use of overhead projectors and power point presentations are employed throughout.

Trainees are encouraged to ask questions and to take an active part in class discussions.

70 hours are dedicated to theoretical studies and approximately 110 hours in well-equipped dedicated workshops.

Each trainee will be issued with hand tools and power tool required to do all practical tasks.

The instructor demonstrates how to do the task to small groups, the number depending on how difficult the task is. One to one tuition is often provided.

COURSE CONTENT:

Theory:

Understand health and safety
Identification of hand tools
Terminology used within the trade
Correctly read a metric tape measure and marking out
Drills, drill bits and fasteners
Basic electrical circuits
Definitions

Interpret and follow drawings
Correctly use measuring tapes, spirit levels and marking out equipment
Use drills, fasteners and taps
Fabricate steel tray
Bend, flare and braze copper pipe
Install simple electrical circuits
Refrigerant identification
Evacuation and charging of a split unit
Safely use relevant refrigerant gases - reclaim and store
Install AC split type units, both the internal and external unit
Pressure and leak testing
Fit condensate pipe
Commission system

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

On successful completion of this course each trainee will have a comprehensive understanding of the following;

Basic engineering skills associated with the air conditioning trade
Interpret and follow basic engineering drawings
Competently use metric measuring tape, spirit levels and marking out devices
Bend, flare and braze copper pipe
Carry out pressure and leak tests
Safely handle brazing and refrigerant gases
Competently install and commission split type AC units

ASSESSMENTS:

  • Assessments are done by an independent assessor on completion of the module.

  • Both theory and practical competency is examined. Trainees must pass both examinations for certificate to be issued.

CERTIFICATION:

  • Successful trainees are issued with a competency certificate accredited by CPD Certification Service, UK.
